황요셉 목사 Rev. Joseph Y. Hwang Grace CRC Classis Lake Superior

반갑습니다! 

미네소타 주 Inver Grove Heights에 있는 Grace CRC에 담임 목사로 부름받은 황요셉 입니다. 2012년도에 칼빈신학교에서 M.Div로 졸업하고 성서 학/박사과정(구약 전공)을 하러 Asbury Theological Seminary에 갔습니다. 10년 동안 광야를 다녀온 기분입니다. 처음에는 학자의 부름을 받은 줄 알았습니다. 모교에서 가르칠 기회도 주어져 더 그렇게 생각한 것 같습니다. 저는 논문을 마치질 못했습니다. 하나님은 제 마음의 잘못된 동기를 꿰뚫어 보셨습니다. 지금은 지나온 시간들이 교회를 위한 준비 과정이었다고 봅니다.

Grace CRC는 저같이 경험이 부족한 목사에게는 이상적인 장소입니다. 저희 가족은 2023년 8월에 미네소타로 이사 왔습니다. 첫 3주 동안 저는 설교를 하지 않았습니다. 교인들을 알아가고 새 집에 정착하는데 집중하라는 카운실의 배려였습니다. 덕분에 작년 10월 달에 예정됐던 노회 목사 고시를 무사히 통과했습니다.

11월에 목사 안수식이 계획되었지만, 제 셋째 형이 10월 29일에 심장마비로 세상을 떠났습니다. 그리고 한 달 뒤 사고로 어머니께서 돌아가셨습니다. 지난 몇 달은 제 인생에 있어서 가장 힘든 시기였습니다. 그럼에도 불구하고 하나님은 저희 가족과 함께 하셨습니다. 주변에 많은 분들과 주님의 몸 된 Grace CRC의 도움과 사랑을 저희는 체험했습니다. 지금도 저와 제 가족은 Grace CRC를 통해 많은 축복을 누리며 배움의 시간을 가지고 있습니다. 

제 기도제목은 참 목자 되신 예수 그리스도의 양을 제가 잘 섬기는 주의 종으로 살아가는 것입니다. 앞으로 교단에 계신 많은 분들을 만나 뵐 수 있길 기대합니다.

Greetings!

I’m the new pastor at Grace CRC in Inver Grove Heights, MN (Classis Lake Superior). I graduated from CTS in 2012 but pursued a post-graduate degree in Biblical Studies at Asbury Theological Seminary. It was a ten-year journey in the wilderness. Initially, I thought God wanted me to go into academia. I had a chance to teach the OT at CTS for several years. But I didn’t complete my dissertation. I couldn’t. I was pursuing the PhD for all the wrong reasons. I’ve come to see that God was preparing me for parish ministry in a local church in the CRC.

Grace CRC has been a refuge for a newly ordained minister like me. Yumi, Alethea, Zerahiah, and I moved here in August 2023. I didn’t preach for my first three weeks. I was told to get to know the congregation and settle into our new home. Council helped me make a smooth transition as I prepared for my classical exam on Oct 23.

Initially, my ordination was scheduled for November, but my brother, John, died unexpectedly on Oct 29. Then my mom died on Nov 18. The past few months have been the most challenging time of my life. But God blessed my family amid our grief. My church stood by my family and supported us. I was finally ordained in December. My family and I have been blessed by Grace, and we know God has called us here. I pray that the true shepherd will help me be faithful to His entrusted flock.
